Planning an ACC-Hardwired Motorcycle Camera Kit

The electrical, cable and installation information dealers should confirm before standardizing a motorcycle DVR kit.

An ACC-hardwired camera should begin recording with the motorcycle and stop predictably after the ignition is switched off. Achieving that consistently depends on the power module, motorcycle circuit and installation—not only the recorder.

Confirm the electrical specification

Request the supported input-voltage range, normal and peak consumption, ACC trigger behavior, low-voltage protection threshold and shutdown delay. Confirm whether parking monitoring is available and how much standby power it consumes.

The power converter should be identified as part of the quoted configuration. Similar-looking converters can use different protection circuits.

Define the wiring package

Before offering a standardized installation, document:

  • Battery positive, ground and ACC wire identification
  • Fuse requirements
  • Power-module dimensions
  • Cable lengths for both cameras
  • Extension cable options
  • Connector diameters
  • Safe bend radius and routing guidance

Different motorcycles offer very different routing space. Cable and connector dimensions can decide whether an installation is straightforward or impractical.

Plan component locations

The recorder or display needs a stable mount and usable viewing position. Cameras need a clear field of view without interfering with steering, suspension or service access. Connectors should be protected from standing water, heat and repeated flexing.

Installers should also preserve access to the storage card and reset controls without dismantling the motorcycle.

Test shutdown and restart behavior

After installing a sample, verify cold start, warm restart, short stops, low battery voltage and abrupt power loss. Confirm that both channels record, timestamps remain correct and the final video file is closed properly.

For a dealer program, record the selected wiring method and installation time on several representative motorcycles before committing to a standard kit.
